Phifer for the war, discharged August 19, 1861 from General Hospital, Culpeper Court House, Va., admitted Moore Hospital at General Hospital, No. 1, Danville, Virginia January 6, 1862, aliment not mentioned, sent to General Hospital, Richmond, n.d., recorded on April 30, 1862 as discharged March, 1862, and final statement given, description: Single, 22 year old Farmer, born in Mississippi resident of Winston, La.

The National Archives, Record Group 109 holdings:

General Hospital (Culpeper Courthouse) - No records for the period of his hospitalization

General Hospital, Danville - Holds a register of patients 1861-62, Ch. VI, vol. 208

There were a number of "General Hospitals" in Richmond, no telling which one he was admitted to in 1862. Later, we find a Louisiana General Hospital in Richmond which opened in June, 1862, but their records begin Sept. 1, 1864

I found three other soldiers of his regiment, hospitalized about the same time, who were sent to Chimborazo General Hospital No. 5. One later transferred on December 15, 1861 to "La. Hospital"

There are many records for Chimborazo hospital at the National Archives. I believe the No. 5 refers to Ward 5.
