Robert T. Persons, Private, Company C, 39th Battalion Virginia Cavalry, enlisted March 26, 1864 at Macon, Ga. by Capt. Brown for the war, paroled at Appomattox Court House, Va., April 9, 1865, with one horse and equipments

The 39th Battalion Virginia Cavalry consisted of four companies, A to D, which had been organized on various dates from August, 1862 to January 26, 1864. It was also known as the 13th Battalion Virginia Cavalry and as Richardson's Battalion of Scouts, Guides and Couriers

There are no Record of Events narratives found for Company C, however, I would suspect they performed the same tasks as Company A.

Company A, Record of Events for the periods:

Sept. & Oct., 1864, Stationed Near Petersburg, Va.
The Company has been during the last two months as heretofore, performing the duties of Couriers, etc. for Genl. R. E. Lee & other General officers

Ditto for the period Nov. & Dec., 1864, dated Dec. 31, 1864 near Petersburg

Company D echos the above
