I started to reply to your post about the Valley Brass Band and that short reply has turned into a longer paper about the history of the unit and the men who served in it. When finished with what I hope is an article that can be published, I will post a summary of the article. Right now I am searching for information on what bandsmen were paid. I know it was $12 per month at the start of the war. Pay rates, however, increased in 1864. Privates pay went from $11 per month to $18 per month. Was there a corresponding increase in the pay of musicians?
