I found this information at Fold3. You can browse records from the Civil War by unit. Found my ancestor's record buried with those of a Joseph Brown. (Since my ancestor never used his first name, only JW, his records were just lumped with those of Joseph. A'ccording to one of the descendants of Joseph Brown's brothers, Joseph died of the measles early in the war. He was buried in a mass grave at some court house I think she said. But since Joseph and my JW were on the losing side, accuracy of the records was not a priority. Records in Richmond were burned but I am hoping to someday visit the Confederate Museum in Richmond and see what records remain for the 8th Virginia Cavalry.
