Not long ago I ran across the published memoir (diary, reminiscence, letters - I'm not sure) of a Confederate surgeon who was north of the James from Aug. through Dec. 1864. He gave an account of meeting General Lee on August 16th in the fight at Fussell's Mill, aka the Second Battle of Deep Bottom.
I am not sure which brigade he served with but I'm believe it may have been an alabama or georgia brigade.
Does anyone know the name of the book this appeared in?
