Re: Looking for members of Co. G, 9th VA Cavalry

Very good info. Couple of facts I didn't have. Claiborne and Thomas were serving together when Thomas was killed at Markham Station on Nov 4, 1862. I am presently trying to locate burial place for Thomas. Think I have found the cemetery but will visit Markham VA this summer and try to confirm anything. Am also trying to find 2 other soldiers of Co. G or H (which are the two companies trying to slow the Union soldiers from entering Markham on Nov 4 according to Beale's book). I thought if I could find either of them maybe their records have something about burial in them.

All the people listed in your info are family. Even the A.W. Malone is believed to be the uncle to the two boys. I will have to get his pension file to prove anything I think. Do you know of any photo's of G company in the 1861 or 62 timeframe? Another shot in the dark. Is there a certain book or place where you get your info. Just started by searching a year or so ago and haven't ID's all the required books and places to look. I do know that a family cousin was a lawyer and he went maybe to Richmond or somewhere and settled the two boys, Tom and Claiborne's estate with the Military. I could never find any documents other than a Quartermasters form showing his estate was one blanket valued at $2.00.

I did find where Claiborne Malone is buried at the Univ. of VA along with so other soldier boys. I guess that the boys buried there were some of the ones who died while in the hospital in Charlottesville. Do you know if the Univ of VA and Charlottesville are located near each other? More later. Thanks, Walker
