- The "Ambrose West" of the 26th Va killed at Petersburg I do not think he could be the Father of Benjamin West. He was listed as being 31 years old, thus born abt 1830, hence this person would have only been 11 years old when Ben was born... He may have been related to some degree, but not the dad...

- The "Ambrose West" the Father of Benjamin West was born in 1807, too old for military service. and records indicate he died in 1870.

- Nancy West... the wife of Benjamin West was born in 1847. They were married on March 11th 1869, by Rev Wm E Wiatt... the same Rev/Chaplain that had served with the 26th Va. Nancy West died on July 15th 1889 of Consumption (Tuberculosis). Nancy West (yes same surname) had a brother Christopher West (b 1841) who served in the 26th Va Co.I, listed as deserted on Dec 14th 1864 (while at Petersburg)
