I'm am interested in corresponding with other folks who have ancestors who served either in the 49th. Alabama Infantry, particularly Company "D", or the 3rd. Battalion, Hilliard's Legion, particularly Company "E".

One of my gggranddads was Silas W. Fletcher who was a Sgt. in company "D" of the 49th Ala. He served at Corinth, Miss., Shiloh, Tenn, Port Hudson, La., and several other battles. Si survived the war and lived until 1920.

Another of my gggranddads was named James K. Shirley. He was a Pvt in Co. "E" of the 3rd. Battn. Hilliard's Legion. He served at Chickamauga, Chattanooga, Petersburg, and other battles. James survived the war and lived until 1929.
