Alpheus Baker

An Alpheus E. Baker of Dallas Co., AL is mentioned in estate papers as the husband of Mary Baker, who was a daughter of one of husband's ancestors.

In searching for Alpheus E. Baker's possible service in the Civil War, I located records at the ADAH website indicating
in 1863 an A. E. Baker, age 26,of Selma, Dallas Co., Alabama enlisted & was a private in Goldsbys Mounted Infantry. The same card also indicated he had a substitute in the Confederacy.

Question:
Does this mean the substitute served in Goldsbys' Mounted Infantry for this man?

Another (?) A. E. Baker, age 30, of Selma, Alabama enlisted 1864, Branch: Home Guard; Regimental Unit: 2nd Class Militia Dallas County; occupation: Foundry.

Question:
Does this imply he worked at the foundry manufacturing arms?

Also, as you might expect, I would love to know (if anyone knows) whether there is a relationship between this Alpheus E. Baker of Dallas Co., AL and THE Alpheus Baker of Barbour Co., AL.

And finally does anyone know what the impetus was to change Baker Co., AL (named after THE Alpheus Baker) to Chilton Co., AL? I know it was renamed for AL Supreme Court Justice, but had Baker fallen out of favor by 1874?

Can't imagine calling those luscious Chilton Co. peaches "Baker County peaches", but I would like to know if this change in name was just political ploy.

Thanks for any assistance to this hodge-podge!
