According the the report of Union Gen. E. Upton, reporting to Gen. James H. Wilson, the First Division was dispatched to Tallassee to destroy the bridge over the Tallapoosa River. This was on or before April 14, 1865 [date of the report]. This corps was particularly known for absconding with gold.
