I have several relatives that served in the 29th Infantry and have done a lot of research. my gggrandfather served in Co.E of the 29th. They were mostly from Shelby county. There is a book at the B'ham Library "Hold At All Hazards; The Story Of The 29th Infantry ". This Book has a lot of information. my gggreatgrandfather Henry Isbell and 5 of his brothers served in this unit. I believe 3 were taken prisioners of war at Kennesaw Mt. in Georgia trying to hold off Sherman and were taken to Camp Douglas in Illinois where Ezekiel Isbell died and was buried in a cemetery in Chicago.
