Tom...

The Wilcox Brigade (8-9-10-11th Alabama and the 19th Mississippi) were in Longstreet's Division and were on the right flank at Gaines Mill. They were a part of the assault on Fitz-John Porter's position. Despite the claims of Texas and Georgia regiments, members of the Wilcox Brigade claimed they made the first breakthrough on the Union position. Whether that is true or not...

The Brigade suffered nearly 1,000 casualties during the battle, which accounted for more than 3/4 of their casualties for the whole Peninsula Campaign. The Wilcox Brigade sustained the most casualties of any Confederate brigade at Gaines Mill. The 11th Alabama alone sustained 157 casualties.
