I don't recognize these gents either, but the "monuments" in the field behind them seem to be tombstones, to me. The ones on the far right look 14-18 inches tall, and the tall (3-4 foot) oblisk on the left looks like what I have seen in innumerable cemeteries. So I would conjecture that this photograph is taken in front of a cemetery. This, of course, increases the possible sites considerably.
