Dear Wayne,

I have a query. Could the W.C. Davis in the 1st Ala. Cav. be U.S. Cav.? Many of the same names crop up in the 18th Ala. and the 1st U.S. Cav. Especially Co. C of the 18th and Co. G of the 1st (both groups had the same named men from St. Clair Co.). A large number of Co. C men were captured at Missionary ridge "en masse". Did these guys "galvanize" or were they desertions from a different time and place? I thought all galvanized troops were supposed to have been sent west to fight the Indians. Many of these Confederates turned Yankee were ostracized by their communities after the war.

How would one go about proving or disproving this theory? Thanks for your thoughts on this.

Paul
