Re: Texas reunion, Sabine Pass soldiers

Hayes,

Incidentally, the microfiche for most archived newspapers in Texas are at the Sid Richardson Hall which is adjacent to the LBJ library in Austin, TX. This is on the extreme southeast portion of the University of Texas campus. This library is part of the University but I do not think that the newspaper archives are available on the web. Parking is free at the LBJ library and the archives are available to anyone. Copies are .25 but it takes 4 pages of copies to completely duplicate a full newspaper page.

I will be going back down there later on this month.

I haven't given up on finding photos of UCV camps but it may be more practical to find said photos in local papers where the camps regularly met. It seems likely that there would be some mention or notice of the reunion event on local levels. Do you think that these veterans were part of a specific camp or were they gathered in order to reunite their old unit? If you know what city they met in please include that information and I will look up the local paper to see if that resource has any additonal information.

In the Dallas News, I found a very specific advertisement for a photographer who had a special on group pictures. The photo you mentioned could very well be one of those advertised specials. If you have access to the photo, I would be interested if the photo had any sort of identification printed on it. I could compare this to the advertisement the next time I am down there.

I also plan to follow up on subsequent days after the reunion to see if any photos showed up after the fact.

I did get a copy of the newspaper page detailing the schedule of the parade and some events related to the reunion.
