I haven't seen the Act to read it, but as far as I know, no AVC companies were cavalry.

I'm beginning to suspect that the 2nd Cav. was organized in Feb. 1861, but service was for only one year and the term "2nd" may not have been designated at that time. Then, perhaps, they reorganized in the Spring of 1862 and were designated the 2nd Cav., as that one have been after the organizational date of the 1st Cav.

If this is so, I wonder what they were designated during that first year, and what they were doing.
