Company “G” of Shelby and Jefferson Counties “Cahaba Valley Guards”

John W. Davis. Surrendered at Vicksburg, Mississippi, July 4, 1863; exchanged there on July 8, 1863. Appointed Major February 11, 1864, to rank September 18, 1863.

Rufus M. Deshazo. Promoted Captain [March 15, 1864, to rank September 18,] 1863. Resigned on April 29, 1864, because of health problems.

George Solon Nave. Promoted Captain [May 17, 1864,] to rank April 29, 1864. Wounded at Kolb’s Farm, Georgia, on June 22, 1864. Retired to the Invalid Corps on December 15, 1864. [UA/61]

Joseph W. Harris. Promoted Captain [to rank December 15, 1864]. Paroled at Talladega, Alabama, May 29, 1865.

Members organized at Harper’s Mills, Alabama, entering state service at Montevallo, Alabama, September 9, 1861. Officers received commissions at Montgomery, Alabama, September 16, 1861. Survivors surrendered at Salisbury, North Carolina, with Company “C”, consolidated 20th Alabama Infantry Regiment.
