Company "F", the "Metropolitan Guards", came from Montgomery. Captains were:

Fountain Winston Hunter. Resigned on October 31, 1861. Later served as Captain of Company “I”, 2nd Alabama Cavalry Regiment. [DAB3:872]

Watkins Phelan. Promoted Captain November 4, 1861; reelected May 1, 1862. Wounded at Seven Pines, Virginia, June 1, 1862; Chancellorsville, Virginia, May 2, 1863; the Wilderness, Virginia, May 5, 1864. [DAB4:1356]

This company mustered March 23, 1861, for twelve months in state service at Montgomery, Alabama, enrolling in Confederate service on April 26, 1861. It had previously been in state service from January 9, 1861, to February 23, 1861, under command of Captain J. S. Winter.
