Based on the 'Camp of Instruction' note, I'd guess this man was drafted, sent to Talladega and assigned to the 25th Alabama from there. If you'd like to see his service record, please contact me at pittsaj14@hotmail.com

Here's some information on the company, which happens to be from St. Clair County. Members called their company the "Ashville Blues" when they organized. Captains were:

Allen W. Nickson. Resigned on March 22, 1862.

H. Lewis Morris. Appointed Captain April 14, 1862, to rank March 1, 1862. Wounded at Murfreesboro, Tennessee, December 31, 1862. Captured there on January 5, 1863. Exchanged at City Point, Virginia, May 4, 1863. Wounded [near Ackworth, Georgia, May 31, 1864, and Franklin, Tennessee, November 30,] 1864. Paroled at Talladega, Alabama, May 18, 1865.

Also known as the "Ashville Artillery," this command left for Fort Gaines, Alabama, September 5, 1861. Officers and men mustered there five days later as Company “D”, 1st Alabama Infantry Battalion. Companies from the 1st Alabama Battalion formed part of the 25th Alabama in January 1862.
