These are wonderful details on Col. Herndon's accomplishments in civil life, and are valuable in our appreciation of the man that he was.

Here are some additional records on his service in the 36th Alabama:

Thomas Hord Herndon. Appointed Major on May 10, 1862; appointment dated February 14, 1863. Promoted Lieutenant Colonel [March 28,] 1863, to rank March 16, 1863; official appointment dated September 26, 1864. Wounded at Chickamauga, Georgia, September 19, 1863, and Atlanta, Georgia, August 13, 1864. Promoted Colonel March 1, 1865, to rank December 13, 1864. Surrendered at Meridian, Mississippi, May 10, 1865.
