I can't tell you who he was, but I can tell you who he wasn't!

MONTFORD, Henry D., Private

Born October 19, 1843 in Ga. Died March 28, 1912 in Johnson County, Ga.

Enlisted in Co. C, 2nd Regiment Ga. State Troops on October 16, 1861. Discharged April 1862.

Enlisted in Co. C, 57th Regiment Ga. Inf. on May 8, 1862. Shown on list of "Field, Staff & Band". Captured at Vicksburg on July 4, 1863. Paroled July 7, 1863. Exchanged August 1863. Surrendered at Greensboro, N.C. on April 26, 1865.

At least that's one Henry Montford that you can rule out. Here's another:

MONTFORT, Henry J., Private
Age, 18 years. Enlisted on October 25, 1861, at Peruville, to serve three years in the 76th NY Infantry, Co. C. Discharged on November 8, 1864, at Petersburg, Va.

Well, I know that doesn't help you much, but at least its a start.
