George:

I see your point. I email a lot of folks in the course of my obcessions, but I can see where that might not be good for everyone. I will endeavor to edit the post to being it up to speed on where we are. In recent weeks several small details have come to light which expand our understanding of the scope of this little affair.

I say *we* since Hayes contributes immeasurably to this, Alan Pitts has been quite a help. However, all of the units engaged, both Federal and Confederate, were from outside Alabama, and the input of researchers in Kentucky, Mississippi, and Louisiana has been istrumental. Everybody wants to add to their unit's regimental history and clear up Alabama WBTS history.

I agree that the casualty count for Alabama, going unit by unit, is a daunting task, not one for which resources are availible everywhere, much less might the time needed to prosecute such a study, even for one regiment, be within everyone's schedule.

Quite frankly, I'm glad to see someone who wants to keep up. Thanks for asking. All the projects add to the body of knowledge of the Late Unpleasantness in Alabama and worthy of our interest. I must say that it because of the Internet and particularly message boards like this that resources and information can be brought together, and ideas exchanged and critiqued.
