Re: James M. Splawn / 2nd Calvary Company B

The records show that he enlisted in Company "B", which organized near Montevallo, Alabama, February 23, 1862, leaving for camp on March 17, 1862. This command mustered at Montgomery, Alabama, March 21, 1862. The rolls show his age as 33, his horse valued at $150 and saddle/bridle etc. valued at $10. Usually present on roll, he was noted as absent sick on Mar. 30, 1864. He received a parole at Talladega AL on May 31, 1865.

Harrison H. and F. G. Splawn also belonged to the same company, most members being from Shelby County. Harrison was ten years younger than James, and served with him through the war. F. G. Splawn enlisted while the command was stationed at Perdido Station on the Gulf Coast. He was received on Mar. 2, 1863, but discharged for ill health on Apr. 20, 1863.

I noted James Splawn's middle initial as "W", but could be mistaken as I didn't look at the name on each record carefully.
