Re: McNeal, William 28th AL Inf. Regt.

Having looked at the NARA records earlier today, I can say that his release record includes a physical description, as well as age and residence. He was captured at Missionary Ridge on Nov. 25, 1863, along with many other members of his regiment. A misfiled record under a slightly different name include a paper from Rock Island that he signed stating that he wished to take the oath of allegiance, dated March 18, 1864. He says he was conscripted and wishes to go home. The McNeal file shows that he was released on oath, April 21, 1864.

He belonged to Capt. F. A. Musgrove's company. Musgrove was reassigned and later served as captain of Company “H”, Livingston’s 8th Alabama Cavalry Regiment.
