I'm trying to find examples or descriptions of battle flags that would have been used by the 49th Alabama Inf. from the time of its inception until it was surrendered at Port Hudson in 1863. So far I've drawn a blank. Can anyone provide me with a direction to search in? This unit started out as the 31st Ala. but was redesignated the 49th sometime shortly after the battle of Shiloh.
