1st Lt. Joseph G. Smith of Company "D", 43rd Alabama. Federal records in his file show that he was wounded and captured on Mar. 25, 1865. One entry says he was wounded in the thorax; the other says he was treated for an injury in the side. Perhaps both are accurate.

However, there are only records of admission but none of release. Federal records are usually very specific about Confederates who died under their treatment, or were later relased, sent to prison, &c. This one is an exception.
