Wm. A. ELLIS, Ala. 41st, Co. I

Trying to find where my great-grandmother's brother, William A. ELLIS, bn Blount Co, AL 1841, died and is buried.
His parents were Jeremiah and Emma Lisa (Buckner) ELLIS. His brother, Jessie Franklin, and he, appeared on a Muster roll (online) for AL 41st Inf. Co. I.

A family record made in 1920's by his niece said, "Uncle William was killed at Petersburg, VA". But, on other family research, such as Family Trees, i.e. St. Mountain Pioneers, Blount Co. AL, is posted a copy of a 'type-written' Muster sheet, which says that "William A. Ellis, appears on a list of killed, wounded and missing, in Hanson's Brigade in the actions before Murfreesboro, TN, Dec. 31, 1862 to Jan. 3, 1863." (not dated). Then, "Remarks: Wounded severely, arm."

I can't find him in a cemetery in either TN or VA. Brandford Cem. Petersburg, VA, has a large number of Confederate soldiers that were re-interred from where they were formerly on their battleground. I'd really like to find William and know if he died in Tenn. or Virginia, and where he is buried. One family member quoted the above muster sheet, then said, "in 1864-65, he was shown on a clothing receipt" w/o any speculation or explanation.
I'm thinking, 'could it be different soldiers by same name?' I'm somewhat confused and at a dead-end on my resources. Any help is really
appreciated.
