Good point, I traced all the referenced units and also the Unfiled papers, no joy.

Joshua Davis, age 22, Private, Captain Stewart's Company, Alabama (Cherokee County) Volunteers*, enlisted January 13, 1862 at Goshen, Alabama by Capt. J. T. Stewart for 12 months, last recorded present on the (Company B, 4th Battalion) muster roll for the period January 13 to April 30, 1862, no further muster rolls exist for this company** which leaves us unaware of his later service

* This company subsequently became Company J, 55th Regiment Alabama Volunteers

The 6th Battalion (Norwood's) and the 16th Battalion (Snodgrass') Alabama Volunteers were consolidated for form the 55th Regiment Alabama Volunteers.

The 6th Battalion was formed of companies of the 12th Regiment Tennessee Volunteers and the 16th Battalion was also known as the 4th Battalion and as the 10th Battalion Alabama Volunteers.

6th Battalion Alabama Norwood's No joy
16th Battalion Alabama Snodgrass's No joy
12th Regiment Tenn. Vols. No joy
4th Battalion Alabama Vols. No Joy
10th Battalion Alabama Vols. No joy
