The Alabama in the Civil War Message Board

I am searching for my great-great-great grandfather John Powers who never
returned home after the War. I know he, his wife, son and daughter lived in
south Alabama. I had thought they lived in Pike Co, near Troy,
based on stories told me by my grandmother.

I found 24 records for John Powers on the AL Civil War Service Database.
One was John Powers - Cavalry - Capt. J.S. Pemberton listed on Pemberton's
Cavalry roster for July 2, 1864.

He is #47 on the list you sent. I am curious about why a soldier from AL
would enlist in a Georgia regiment. How did this happen? How can I find out
more about this John Powers so that I can either eliminate him from my
search or continue to pursue him?
