Jesse/Joseph Thornton, Private, Company B, Captain Waters Battery, 2nd Battalion Alabama Light Artillery, enlisted March 1, 1862 in Mobile/Washington County by Capt. Waters for the war, recorded sick in hospital by authority of the Surgeon August 24, 1862 at Chattanooga, returned to duty from Catoosa Springs, Ga. Hospital, January, 1863, still absent February 28, 1863, recorded present October 31, 1863, last recorded present December 31, 1863*

This organization was designated at various times as Waters' Company, 1st Battalion Alabama Light Artillery; and Company B, 2nd Battalion Alabama Light Artillery

* This was the last surviving muster roll for Company B where they were stationed at Atlanta, the record of events for this muster roll:

Engaged in the battle of Chattanooga on the 23rd & 25th of Nov. '63. Lost three guns on the 25th, the horses having been shot down so that it was impossible to bring them off. Retreated with the army to Dalton, Ga. 8th Dec. Ordered by Gen. Hardee to turn over our remaining Gun, Horses & Caissons and report to Col. Wright at Atlanta, Ga.
