Thank you, Mr. Martin for this info. I believe this is my 3rd great-grandfather that I have been trying to locate for sometime. He had four children Elijah T. Thornton 1847-1928, Elizabeth Thornton 1858-1923, Joseph Jefferson Thornton 1860-1930, and Simon Jesse Thornton Jan. 1862-1930. They were all lifetime residents of Washington County. It is believed he was killed during the War, for his two younger childern were taking in and raised by neighbors. Your information is helping me connect the dots of why they had no father growing up.
