WILLIAM B. S. GILMER was a very popular and prominent man, and was an influential man in his county and a representative in the Legislature, as has been mentioned in a former chapter. He married a daughter of NICHOLAS MARKS ; they had no children. After remaining on his plantation a few years, he left it in charge of a superintendent, and moved to LaFayette, Chambers county; there he adopted a boy by the name of FRANK PERRY. He spent the remaining years of his life there, and at his death willed his property to his wife. She survived her husband only a few years, and at her death willed all her property to the boy FRANK, and at his death he willed it back to MRS. GILMER'S family.
