From the book "Civil War Letters to a Sister in Alabama". James Branscomb of the Third Alabama is replying to a letter from his sister. He writes " I received a letter from Lizzie yesterday." (Lizzie was his 11 year old niece) She sent me a sample of home industry (which was believed to be a sample of clothe she had woven). Tell her all the harm I wish her is that she would send me a shirt like a piece of clothe she sent me. She tells me when I come home not to bring no confederate diamonds. I don't suppose she has ever seen one. Tell her she may look for a pair of them in letter before long".
What were Confederate Diamonds??
