I am requesting assistance with sorting out the military service records of William Irvin (initial often mistranslated as J instead of I) Eppison/ Epperson. Based on statements in the 1907 and 1921 Census of Confederate Soldiers, he served in Co. E 10th AL Cavalry, Slaughters Company. So far, I have not located his records in the 10th. I have his service record as serving in Co. E 5th Batt'n Hilliard's Legion, AL Cavalry, enlisted 5 Feb 1862, Cusseta, AL with a notation of "reenlistment for 3 years". There are comments at the bottoms of the cards about units having been combined, but I can't read them clearly. I also located 2 cards for Wm. Epperson Co. G 5th AL Cavalry including a clothing receipt Mar 1864.

Any assistance with a timeline of which of these units were combined and when, as well as when this individual was in which units, will be appreciated. This man is not my own ancestor but, as usual, I am helping someone else with her UDC application.
