William Rowe, age 47, Private, Captain Alfred S. Truitt's Company, Forrest's Regiment,* joined for duty and enrolled August 16, 1861 at Gadsden, Ala. by A. S. Truitt for 12 months having travelled 300 miles to place of rendezvous, value of horse $140, died n.d., claim for settlement of his accounts were filed July 25, 1862

* This company appears to have been assigned to the 3rd (Forrest's) Regiment Tennessee Cavalry as (1st) Company E, when that regiment was organized in October, 1861. It subsequently served in one of the two battalions into which that regiment was separated in April, 1862, and it was transferred to the 4th (Russell's) Regiment Alabama Cavalry (Nov. 23, 1862) when the latter was organized in November, 1862, becoming Company B of that organization.

Organized as a battalion at Memphis, October, 1861; increased to regiment January, 1862; divided into two battalions April, 1862; four Alabama companies transferred to 4th (Russell's) Alabama Cavalry Regiment in November, 1862; 18th Battalion first known as Balch's Battalion; then as McDonald's Battalion; finally as 26th Battalion; reorganized as regiment latter part of 1864; consolidated with 12th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment in February 1865; surrendered and paroled at Gainesville, Alabama, May 1865.
