I cannot address the genealogical questions. SCV Camp 1610 (Monroeville) records reveal that Benjamin Franklin Hudson b:14 Dec 1832 d: 01 Aug 1882 is buried at Coffeeville Cemetery, Coffeeville, Clarke County, AL. He enlisted 02 Aug 1861 @ Grove Hill with old Co. A, 5th Ala Reg't. After reorganization Co. I. He was hospitalized at Richmond as recorded in the muster roll taken at Davis Ford, VA. 31 Oct to 31 Dec 1861. He was captured at Gettysburg 01 Jul 1863. No additional info. Champion. There is no record of M.H. Champion in reel # 138, National Archives Microfilm for 5th Ala. Reg't.

Stood 6' 2 1/2" tall, age 35, light complexion, blue eyes, dark hair. *Joined 38th Ala.* Inf. Widow's Pension 4th Class #2541 paid to Mrs. M.E. Champion of Atkinson Post Office, Clarke County, AL.
