In this case, it had been assessed that Pvt. Dunnam was responsible for the loss of a weapon and docked $4.63 pay.

A Board of Survey appointed on the 3rd Inst. in accordance with "Special Order No. 62" for the purpose of assessing damags [sic] to ordnance Stores reported lost & stolen, and their decision having been approved by the Brig. Genl Comdg. I hereby notify you to enter a stoppage on your present Muster Rolls $4.63 against Private J. F. Duntam [sic] and $1.00 against Private R. Watson, Co. "A" 23rd Alabama Regt. for Ord. Stores Lost.
