Re: Service Record -- Thomas Dunnam

A review of Thomas F. Dunnam's record indicates 21 pages in his file. A General Index Card is recorded F.F. Dunnam, Pvt. 23rd Ala. Reg't. Manuscript # 6251, Jan/Feb. 1864, pg. 464. A second card reads T.F. Dunnam with 14 card entries. He enlisted 28 March 1862 at Camden for 3 years. He was assigned to Co. A, 23rd Ala. Infantry Regiment. The regimental commander was Col. Franklin Beck, a Wilcox citizen. The initial muster roll contains a note, "commutation due 27 Mar 1862". He was present for MR dated 31 Dec to 18 May 1863. Last paid 31 Dec 1862. The MR dated May/June 1862 records his enlistment at Wills City. He was absent and in Knoxville sick. The MR contains the note: "commutation due since 28 Mar 1862" He had not been paid. In MR dated 30 Aug 1862 to 30 Oct 1862, he was present and last paid 30 June 1862. The remaining entries are from Federal records and detail his capture and imprisonment.

Camp Douglas, Il. Roll # 352, sheet 5. Oath of Allegiance by Thomas F. Dunnam signed by mark. Lived at Wilcox County, AL. Stood 5' 10" tall, florid complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, Remarks: Bridgeport, AL.
General Order # 109, U.S. Adjutant General's Office, Washington, DC. dated 06 June 1865. Roll of Prisoners discharged from Camp Douglas, IL. Thomas F. Dunnam on 17 June 1865. Remarks: Wilcox County, AL.
The only additional entry is the Board of Survey dated 04 May 1864 addressed to Capt. J.W. Steen, Commanding, Co. A, 23rd Ala. Inf. This document has been addressed on this site.
