Thank you so much for the information. Now I am now sure this is a member of my family as he enlisted in the same place as at least one of his brothers. On the father's 1866 AL census, it says he lost 2 soldiers (sons) due to sickness. One died in a hospital in MS and the other was in Rock Island Prison and it shows he was released at end of war and must have died shortly after his release (my direct ancestor) proven thru DNA with McNeal cousins. There were two more sons and I have not been able to find anything on one after 1860 but this makes me wonder if he, too, went to war. It seems the other son did not serve in the war. I just found this record of John by accident as I had no idea what happened to him after the 1860 census. Thank you again! Will
