Re: Sauta Cave, Jackson County, Alabama

There existed a Captain Young's Company for the Defense of Niter and Mining District 9. The muster roll of 96 men with CSR are on M311 Roll 504 National Archives. They were stationed at Larkinsville, Alabama until removed to Santa Niter Works in Jackson County Alabama. They were engaged in "arresting deserters, gathering conscripts, and guarding different niter works embraced in the District besides rendering a considerable service as detailed laborers at the aforesaid works." I have transcribed the records of this Company. Art Green
