Thanks. Definitely makes sense, context means everything.

So a general question on researching Civil War records... I can see the fold3 entries for E F May:

He enlisted for 3 years in March 1862, though the last muster roll it lists him in is Sept & Oct 1863. Does this mean he likely left service around that time? Records might be lost or just not registered in this collection, etc? I guess my next step would be to try and track down the actual muster rolls and see if they continue and without him?

The next records listed for him are the parole records.
