Sep/Oct, 1863 was the last Company G muster for which records survived to be recorded in the National Archives Compiled Service Records. They were stationed at Town Creek at the time.

At war’s end, the regiment tracked Sherman to Greenesboro, N. C., then escorted President Davis to Georgia. At Forsyth, in that State, the regiment laid down its arms, 450 strong, about May 5, 1865. They were not formerly surrendered.

I would assume he made his way home with his mates, later applying for and receiving his formal Federal parole as an ex Confederate soldier.
