Re: Lafayette Mayfield-First AL Cav USA

Hoyt and Rick,
I, too, have an ancestor that fought with the 1st Cav-Josiah Wilson. He served with the Alabama 28th Regt, CSA until 1864 and then joined the 1st while home on leave. He was 1st Sgt of Co D I have a copy of his diary from the time he joined until he was discharged and walked home from NC to No AL. There is a book written by Don Umphrey "Southerners in Blue" that is based on Don's ancestors letters/diary and is a good read. Gives a good account of the Unionist life in N AL. Rick, Think you and I have discussed this before?
Will be glad to share the diary copy since I have lost my web page host.
E. D.
