From my experience of growing up in AL many years ago, I would say not a chance. The South was not called the Solid South without a reason. Ever heard the term "yellow dog democrat" If a yellow dog is running for office as a Democrat he gets the votes. As I recall, it was the early 1960s before a Republican from AL made it to Washington.
