It does surprise me somewhat that Colonel Parsons, "Turned Republican" after the war. Altho, he was from New York. I do know that he never did loose admiration for his soldiers and at times returned to Texas for reunions.

Perhaps most fascinating is Colonel Mosby's friendship with General Grant.

A twist of fate here and there during the war and Colonel Mosby may well have gobbled up General Grant.....:)
