The brigade assignments you gave are for your ancestor's company, not the 61st Alabama Regiment. Here's the company's organizational history:

Accepted in Confederate service at Franklin, Ala, Aug 8, 1861, John L. Irwin’s “Alabama Invincibles” first served in western Virginia. On Jan 8, 1862, members reported at Savannah under Capt George W. Holmes to form 3rd Company “E” of the 25th Georgia Regt. On May 2, 1862, they reorganized for three years or the war as 2nd Company “I” of the 38th Georgia Regt. Capts Henry L Jones and A B Irwin both died prior to July 3, 1862, while Capt James E. Jones was killed at Fredericksburg, Va, Dec 13, 1862. The company transferred to the 60th Georgia Regt as 2nd Company “A” on Apr 5, 1863, and joined the 61st Alabama Regt on Apr 11, 1864.

If you've not already done so, check your ancestor's service file in the 38th and 60th Georgia. Both served in Lawton's (later J B Gordon's) Brigade. Sgt Kirkland's company fought in several major battles, including Sharpsburg MD, Fredericksburg VA and Gettysburg PA.
