The link you provided to the Hardee's 1862 version is very helpful. It will take me some time to digest, but it clearly identifies two platoons, each platoon with two sections (at least for one movement). One drill places an officer in charge of each of the four sections, which I find interesting.
But two platoons are clearly defined with Platoon "Chiefs". (rather than Platoon Leaders, as we have today.)
I will study it further.
