Re: Arkansas Civil War Death Help

I have researched Camp White Sulphur Springs in Jefferson County, AR. near Pine Bluff for years, where many of the men from Sevier County who were enlisted in Dawson's 19th Arkansas Infantry became lost to history.

Almost every able bodied man in Arkansas did service in the Confederate Army because of the situation in 1862. So, I would be pretty confident that he served the question is where and how? And Sulphur Springs is one of the areas were records either were never made, became lost in transfers, or were destroyed at Arkansas Post. So we have to rebuild those records.

Here are a couple of website which may be of interest in your efforts.

The first place I would look would be the 1860 Sevier Co. Census and see who is living with and around your ancestor that may have been related. Don't forget the in-laws either. Quite often, since you are dealing with a Conscription Act (Draft Law), most relatives enlisted together in the same group.
