Joseph W. Cook of Helena, AK

Joseph W. Cook was a corporal in the 43rd MS Infantry. He moved to Helena, Arkansas, where he became a successful merchant and respected citizen. From ca. 1906-ca. 1912, he wrote five brief articles about the 43rd MS for Confederate Veteran magazine. These are the only published articles about this regiment that have come to light in seventeen years of research.** I am reviewing some twenty years of the Helena Weekly World and the Helena Daily World for articles by Corporal Cook, but have thus far found no article by either him or any other Confederate veterans, indicating that these papers simply did not publish war reminiscences. If anyone has any info regarding Joseph W. Cook and any letters, diaries, articles, or other manuscripts by him that may have survived, please contact me at your earliest convenience. Many thanks! -- Jim Huffman, Co-Historian, 43rd MS Inf. Vols, CSA (**My co-historian, Hon. Scott Bell, of Jacksonville, TX, has also been researching this "Ghost Regiment" for seventeen years.)
