I actually looked at the site and believed it was one of the best I have ever seen. That is why I believed he was from Alton.
That John Anderson from Alton was listed as not being assigned to a group. I had no idea there could be so many by the same name in the 10th Illinois Cav.
I did try writing the Illinois site and the lady who responded told me she knew nothing.
Where the information of the name and the group he was with came from a grave marker. That was why I said Co. A. Perhaps this John Anderson was in Co. A before being assigned somewhere else.
However I have to say that what little I have used or checked Union records only confirmed that their records were usually correct.
